The 1.6" thick solid steel intermediate shaft from a Z24 Chevy Cavalier
with
Getrag 5-Speed mounted on a Z34 DOHC engine in a Fiero. The bearing
is
held in the mounting bracket I welded up which has to share space with
the
alternator bracketry.
The shaft uses the standard Getrag seal on the tranny. Notice the 88
Fiero
motor mount has been cut to clear the C/V joint that will be there.
Also, this
88 mount was thickened by welding on another layer of steel cladding.
This application requires a special female-ended passenger side C/V
axle of
a very unusual (short, but not as short as the Cavalier female axle)
length.
I was told you could take a Fiero automatic and switch the
Y-pots on the driver's side, and passenger side, and have the part
you need, but it
turned out to be a good 1" to 1.5" too long. There was no way to mount
the bearing and knuckle
with the c/v axle in place.
I have yet to find an axle that is the right length to use for this. so these parts sit in the shelf for now.
