A Paint job done the "right" way
A Paint job done the "right" way
people are always curious about Fiero paint jobs. I wanted to do mine
really clean, and removed all the body parts and painted them separate to
achieve this.
My car got hit. The damage was more severe than it looks, the entire rear
had to be cut off from the shock towers back, and welded on. I took the opportunity
to paint the car as I've always wanted to do. I removed the rear clip and bumper,
drove it to the body shop, and had them do only the metal work. I sawed a rear end off
a parts GT a few of us bought (for $150--my portion), and brought it in using a pickup truck. $1000 in labor later, I
had a new rear end.
In order to have the best-fitting parts, I removed the hoods and roof, and drove around
with the crappy-looking parts from the parts car while I prepped and painted the original
parts.
My girlfriend Priya helping out in the early stages of putting the painted body
on after removing every body part. Yes, we are doing this parked on a street. No garage
The whole "on the street" thing made a bit wierder since there is a Ferrari Dealer
two doors down on this street.
My Pal Kraig, who also helped out, and me on the right.
Me and Priya, about half done.
The results, including a two-toned coupe nose, which I have always wanted to try.
A closeup of the rubout, Kraig, Priya and I had some pretty tired hands and late
evenings, wet-sanding individual body parts with 1000 and 1500 grit, on the porch, before buffing.
