The theoretical re-proportioning of thr Fiero

indulge yourself a bit and press Back and Forward arrows in your browser. (make a little slide show).

I gotta admit, this is pure theory, and a very rough attempt and maintaining the basic Fiero styling attitude and concept. It's kinda ugly at first, but after some cleaning up, could look nice. Right now it reminds me of a Maserati Bora. Could use some sort of larger scoop on the side, for air. The sloping front means you have to redesign the hood (a pain).

Notice the front wheel stays in the same place, and the nose shortens-to give less of a target for the urban jungle, plus an air dam as a bonus. You'd probably have to punt your spare tire and carry a can of tire inflater (Like some exotic cars). Or just cleverly make more careful use of the space.

Also, the rear wheel moves back several inches to give a longer wheelbase and a shorter rear bumper (probably no trunkspace, though!) for the same alleviation from urban problems of high curbs, parking lot spacers, etc. The longer wheelbase would help ride and handling at high speed, especially (less bumpy--more stable). It would also allow room for either way better access to a transverse-mounted V-6, or even better, longitudal mount of an engine of any spec, with a Porsche transaxle for better horse power, and more choices for racing clutches and the like. Gawd, you could change your plugs in a normal amount of time!!

I have a wish list for the type of rear frame that would go in after the stretch: Ryane Motorsports makes a cradle that replaces all the rear cradle and suspension, giving you Formula One-style horizontal coil-vers with dual A-arms and the ability to longitudally mount a V-8... Ahh, the handling!! A V-8 Fiero done as well as possible. Dual exhaust would be more proportioned and easier to implement as well.

I think it's interesting to note that, with the rear clip the stock length, moving the rear wheels makes the rear end 'look' longer, without actually stretching the body.

Nothing like this is going to happen in my lifetime, unless I get about $20,000 to throw around for fun. This is just an idea that I will strive to acheive, if I have the resources. This is basically a kit car at this point.
